What is the difference between plastic and cosmetic surgery?
Plastic surgery is intended primarily for soft tissue, ie everything that we envelope: the skin, muscles as opposed to hard tissues such as bone.
It encompasses both reconstructive surgery as cosmetic surgery. The difference between these two surgeries is that the latter has no medical purpose and is not mandatory unlike the first, arising as the result of an accident or cancer ....
Indeed, cosmetic surgery is designed to beautify, the silhouette, face, or to rejuvenate the look by doing such a facelift, plastic surgery aimed as its name suggests to "repair". This which has been damaged. Let us not forget that all the techniques of so-called aesthetic interventions are derived from the techniques of surgery.

Was is the origin of plastic surgery and when did it really soar up?
In France, cosmetic surgery was the day after the surgery, which itself emerged after the world premiere with "broken faces" For example, the great French surgeon Morestin rebuilt the famous "broken faces" of the war 14-18.
They then were people whose face had been partially destroyed by shrapnel and grenades. The surgeons were therefore at that time trying to develop new techniques to reconstruct the faces mutilated, including the nose, jaws, etc.. Unfortunately, as they had a poor knowledge of the skin, the results were mostly failures. However, all these efforts helped gradually to better control this type of surgery and gave birth to new techniques which has inspired cosmetic surgery.
Cosmetic surgery, it appeared after the second world war in 50 years especially in the United States. This surgery, however, remained restricted to an elite like the actresses and the first operations were fore particular face as rhinoplasty (nose operation). In the years 60 - 65 took the first place breast implants.

How do we proceed on an initial consultation?
Here, surgeon and patient meet for a relaxed but systematic discussion of all aspects of the problem under consideration. The surgeon will start by reviewing the patient's goals. He will review medical history and lifestyle, conduct a physical examination and assess the patient's suitability . He may recommend tests before making a definite recommendation. He will aim to educate and inform the patient about the problem and go on to explain the different ways in which surgery could attempt to solve it. He will then recommend what he considers to be the best procedure to carry out, taking everything into account.
He will explain what the operation involves; cover the pros and cons and the risks involved; discuss anaesthesia; the clinic where the operation will be carried out; and recovery - how long it will take and how you are likely to feel at each stage. Finally the patient care co-ordinator will cover fees - his, the hospital's and the anaesthetist's.
During the Consultation a mutual understanding will hopefully develop. The surgeon should invite you to ask all your questions and your worries. His answers should be frank and clear.

Is there a refllexion period required before the operation?
Not only is there a cooling off period before any surgical procedure, but this time is even more mandatory that before surgery aesthetics. Before 2005, it was fifteen days, fifteen days may be reduced to eight or even less if the patient was specifically requested.
Since the new decree of 12 July 2005, two weeks is incompressible. This period is very important because it allows any person wishing to undergo cosmetic surgery to properly mature reflection and not to decide any pressure. In effect, this decree was taken as a result of abuse we have seen patients having surgery the same day of the consultation without being prepared to undergo an intervention.
-------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------
Is cosmetic surgery safe?
No,there is no surgery without risk.
Whatever the operation, whether as a slight eyelid - because performed under local anesthesia - or more like a heavy abdominoplasty - which requires several days of hospitalization - there is always a surgical risk.
Any operation must be carefully considered and should not be applied on a whim. It is for this reason that the law imposes a cooling-off period of 15 days between the day of consultation and the operation and delivery of a document called "Informed Consent"

Does The surgeon have an obligation of result?
In France, if no surgeon did an obligation of result, there is nevertheless an obligation of information and increased resources.
This means that a surgeon is responsible for his acts and that, before proposing surgery must weigh the pros and cons, the aim being to provide a benefit to the patient. This is especially true in the field of plastic surgery, because unlike the conventional surgery, the patient is not suffering from any disease!
The plastic surgeon has a duty to personalized information. A young patient may receive, for example, information identical to those that could be given to an older person! Also from one person to another is not the same technique will be implemented, it is therefore appropriate that the surgeon will always explains his choice and none of your questions remain unanswered.
When the means increased, this means that the surgeon must make every effort to ensure that your operation is in the best possible way, starting with the place that must be appropriated. For example, although liposuction performed under local anesthesia should be done in an operating room and not in his office. A surgeon who would take the risk of such acts in his cabinet would meet the requirement strengthened. In the case of general anesthesia, the surgeon must address the future operation at an anesthetist. This pre-anesthesia consultation should take place well before the operation and it is compulsory.Cosmetic Surgery: FAQ
Remember that plastic surgery can achieve a great deal but it is not a perfect science. In the unfortunate cases where patients are not completely happy after procedures, the problem usually lies not with the success of the operation but with the patient who may have expected too much. Over anxious, highly nervous patients who believe a different nose shape or slimmer thighs will save their marriage or land a better job are unlikely ever to be satisfied by what a surgeon can achieve
