 Otoplasty:

This intervention is supported by Medical care services after prior arrangement, especially for patients under 16 years old. However, private hospitalization and cost overrun are often charged to the patient.

Patients have to wait until the minimal age of 7 years old before being operated, so that the ears is grown enough for the correction to last.

Anesthesia can be "only local" especially among adolescents or adults but most often it is preferable to do a "neuroleptanalgésie" which is associated with a local anesthetic, and less frequently with a general anesthesia with tracheal intubation (child).

The first way to do it  is by retro-ear, a zone of skin is removed and the cartilage is "sculpted"  with a special grater to obtain the desired shape. It is maintained by internal points. The skin is then sutured slightly compression bandage is worn for 24 H. Hospitalization is ambulatory when local anesthetic and 1 day in case of general anesthesia.

The result is immediate but it is best appreciated 15 to 21 days after surgery when oedema has decreased.
